What Are the Best Jobs for Pharmacists?

without comments

Let’s start by understanding that the pharmaceutical field
is exciting, complicated and fragmented. Additionally many pharmacists find
that once they get into the field there are many perspective employers
clamoring for their services. This demand can be found both in the clinical and
retail areas of our economy.

The Retail Field

It’s fair to say that the retail sector creates the greatest
demand for people entering the pharmaceutical field. Anyone interested in this
career should begin exploring this sector with several applications. This
sector offers a vast opportunity to work in drug stores or pharmacies while
dealing with the general public. You would be dispensing both subscriptions and
medical advice to people who would respect your pharmaceutical expertise in
this lucrative career.
There may be many challenging situations working in retail
as a pharmacist. Remember you are dealing with the public who see you as a
trusted professional who is charged with a serious responsibility. You are the
expert and must be able to explain to your customers in a clear and simple
manner any ideas you need to communicate. Your job is to provide the answer to
people who are sometimes anxious about the health and this can often present a
challenge.

The Clinical Field

The demands and pressures of the retail field may not appeal
to everyone. The general public can sometimes be difficult to work with. The
remaining option within the clinical sector provides an alternate choice within
this profession. This means you’d be working in a clinic, lab or a hospital.
Your job would be focused on formulating the medicines as well as its
administration as to it method of transmission. While in the clinical
environment you would be interfacing with doctors, nurses and the patients.

There are times while working in the clinical pharmaceutical
environment that a pharmacist will find themselves using their expertise to
advise the doctors as well as the patients or even the medical staff about the
use of different medications. It’s plain to see how important the pharmacist’s
role is within the clinical environment.

Other Choices

Although the retail and clinical environment are the more
common job markets for a pharmacist there are other options.  The other avenues for pharmacists to pursue
would be working in a corporate structure where there is a need to dispense
medication. Pharmacists can also be found in research firms, applications labs
or small businesses.

Other professional opportunities such as the military or
nuclear plants can be desirable for an experienced pharmacist. The bottom line
is that over a relatively reasonable amount of time a pharmacist can attain a
level of experience that will continually open more doors. This should lead to
a lucrative and rewarding career in a field where your expertise is respected
by other professionals as well as the general public.
